Conveyor Industry Group

The Conveyor & Sortation Systems members are the Industry’s leading providers of conveyors. They design, fabricate and install conveyor systems worldwide and in virtually every major manufacturing and distribution sector.

What is a Conveyor?

A conveyor is a horizontal, inclined or vertical device commonly used in manufacturing and distribution facilities to move material, packages or objects. Conveyors usually consist of a looped belt or chain moving along a pre-determined path and having points of loading and discharge, fixed or selective.

Conveyors allow for more efficient retail, wholesale, and manufacturing distribution. They are a labor saving system that allows large volumes or material and/or product to move and be sorted rapidly through a process, allowing companies to ship or receive higher volumes with smaller storage space and with less labor expense.

What We Do

Conveyor & Sortation Systems members meet regularly to review, discuss and revise the standards for design, performance and proper operation of conveyor systems.

The Conveyor & Sortation Systems Programs Include:
  1. The publication and promotion of technical literature on the training, inspection, safety and maintenance of conveyor systems.
  2. The publication and revision of today's standards to meet the ever-changing demands of technology and the modern industrial environment.
  3. The publication of voluntary standards for the mechanical, structural and electrical design of conveyors, and the formulation of guidelines for the proper use, operation and maintenance of those conveyors.
  4. The preparation and distribution of educational and promotional materials as to the benefits of conveyor solutions.

VRC Application Guidelines

The Application Guidelines for Vertical Reciprocating Conveyors were thoroughly revised from the original 1991 Version which they replace. They were prepared as a result of the VRC Sub-Committee's recognition of a need to develop comprehensive safety guidelines and establish a minimum design criteria for when such are used in conjunction with ASME B20.1 - The Safety Standard for Conveyors and Related Equipment.
