A system of eighteen (18) self-guided vehicles (SGVs) transport loads of Parent Paper Rolls, Broke Bins, Core Bins and Packing Material throughout the paper facility. All automated load movements are directed by the SGV Manager Control System and reported to the in house computer system.

A fleet of sixteen (16) large Outrigger SGVs with an adjustable fork positioner handles the Parent Paper Rolls, Core and Broke Bins. Large Parent rolls are removed from the paper machine and routed to converting delivery stations, to storage or to the roll buffer area.

Bins of waste paper called Broke Bins are removed from converting lines by the SGV, weighted and delivered to the stock preparation area for recycling. Broke weight and source information are automatically recorded by the SGV Manager software and made available to the in house computer system. A smaller counterbalance forklift SGV handles pallets of packing material (poly plastic rolls) and empty pallets, while a forklift SGV with a flat-plated clamp handles pallets of boxes.

Operators communicate requests for the removal and return of full and empty core bins to the SGV Manager system with hand-held data terminals using web-enabled wireless technology. This system of self-guided vehicles has provided the paper facility with a damage-free solution to material handling, while contributing to a safe operating environment.
