Seven dual stage lift mast Automatic Guided Vehicles (AGVs) deliver pallets of Oil Pans, Intake Manifolds, Exhaust Manifolds, Engine Heads and Engine Blocks in this engine manufacturing plant for a “Big Three” customer. The AGVs transport these materials from flow racks to intake conveyor positions.
Dunnage in the form of empty pallets are retrieved after each load delivery and returned to specific drop positions based on load type.
Seamless coordination between the plant production software and AGV Manager assure just-in-time delivery of specific load types at all production intake conveyors.
Handshake sensors on the AGV and the conveyor assure proper load alignment and timing during the smooth load transfer sequence.
In the Engine Block area, the AGV Manager dispatches an AGV to deliver a pallet of Blocks to the input side of the Block production line.
After delivering the blocks, the AGV proceeds to the Dunnage pick up location and picks up a load of empty Block pallets. The AGV then delivers it to the Dunnage drop conveyor and returns to a park location.
This sequence is repeated in other areas for Engine heads, exhaust manifolds, intake manifolds and oil pans.
The AGVs use laser navigation, traveling several miles each day in this 24/7 operation, only stopping for battery exchanges.
