  • Optimal storage efficiency
  • Reduced product damage

The customer, one of the country's top 3PL Refrigerated Services companies, planned to increase the amount of product processed through its blast freezer facility. The goal was to input over 140 pallets in two hours and move them zone to zone within 15 minutes, tracking the product in batches.

The challenge was to design, build and install a product material flow system in a blast freezer environment with extreme conditions. Traditional mechanical systems would be severely challenged.

The system is designed to be high-density, high-throughput and fully automatic. Its core portion is a rack structure connected to outside areas with input/output conveyors. The main components are VTLs (Vertical Transfer Lift), DLTs (Deep Lane Transfer) and CATs (Cross Aisle Transfer). Together, they can move the pallets three-dimensionally to any position. Software gives certified operators the tools needed to manipulate the system. The solution called for using high-density dynamic storage technology to continuously move pallets. The spatially arranged cases could all move through the progressive temperature zones - all while under computer control. The system moves products down lanes to maximize the storage capacity of the area.

This modified design uses high-density dynamic storage technology to move the pallets, allowing multiple lots in each zone at the same time - all while maintaining lot integrity.
