Manipulator Designed to Solve Ergonomic Problem

(Download this casestudy in pdf format)

Customer ergonomic problem:
Two workers are required to take a collapsed 91” long by 78” wide cardboard box off a pallet, pitch it 90 degrees, expand the flat box, and place the 92” tall 48” wide by 30” deep cardboard box over an appliance to prepare it for shipping.

Due to the large box size, arm and body movements outside of the preferred ergomomic range were required.

The Solution:
Positech designed and manufactured a manipulator with a three function end of arm tooling to allow one operator to ergomomically perform this task.

The box is picked up off the pallet with a custom designed vacuum tool.

The box is pitched 90 degrees to a vertical postion.

The third pneumatic tooling function expands the box to allow it to be placed over the appliance.
