One of the largest manufacturers and providers of active pharmaceutical ingredients, places a top priority on a highly effective supply chain. That means materials handling must maximize efficiency and minimize cost.
In one of Teva's manufacturing operations, finished pharmaceutical products exit the production line and are placed on small trays. These trays must be transferred, as quickly as possible, to a cold storage area, while making efficient use of available space. The transfer device must also be ergonomically suited for the individual employee who is handling the product.
Ergonomically correct
To accomplish that, they turned to an ergonomically correct, cost-efficient, multi-purpose knockdown bulk container/pallet system. The patented design allows all of the walls to be completely detached from the pallet base so the containers can be filled from the front by leaving
one wall detached.
Up to three high
At the pharmaceutical production line, the container is placed with one wall open to easily place trays of products. As the trays fill up the first container, the fourth wall is closed and another set of walls is attached at the top, repeating the process until the containers are stacked three high. The walls are locked in place and a small manual forklift is used to convey the finished product into the cold storage area.
Efficient storage
No shelving is necessary and the three-high container system is the proper height for a worker to be able to reach into the open front wall and remove as many trays as are needed for shipping.
As employees who are filling orders empty the container, the walls are removed until the basic container with the pallet is left. If necessary, a lid can be easily added for use as the shipping container.
