RoboVault Selects Automated Self Storage Systems, LLC Driven by Westfalia Technologies Inc’s AS/RS

Monday, April 14, 2008

DELRAY BEACH, Fla., March 18, 2008 – RoboVault of Fort Lauderdale, Fla. has selected an automated self storage system from Automated Self Storage Systems, LLC Driven by Westfalia for a new self-storage facility. The facility, adjacent to the Fort Lauderdale airport, brings a higher level of ease of use and safety to the self-storage customer. Belongings will be stored in a safe, climate-controlled facility, where individuals’ storage units are delivered to them for easy, yet secure access. Westfalia’s Automated Storage and Retrieval System (AS/RS) technology and Savannna.NET® Warehouse Management System will move, manage and control the movement of the units throughout the facility.

RoboVault prides itself on providing the maximum security in robotic storage. The company specializes in storing high-value possessions in high tech storage facilities with unprecedented security, privacy and flexibility. RoboVault’s climate-controlled buildings are equipped with emergency back-up generators and are built to withstand category 5+ hurricanes.

According to company owner Marvin Chaney, “RoboVault has redefined storage and primarily appeals to two types of users.  The first group consists of affluent residential users who have expensive personal property that needs to be stored.  The second group consists of commercial users such as law firms, trust and estate management advisors, title companies, art dealers, appraisers, private collector services and governmental agencies that need to store their possessions.  These types of customers need to feel that their property is afforded the ultimate in protection.  Automated Self Storage Systems, LLC Driven by Westfalia is an industry leader, and their involvement as the robotic vendor for our automated system is absolutely critical.”

RoboVault’s first automated self-storage facility will have five levels of automated storage, with the first level accommodating the customer loading areas, offices and mechanical equipment rooms, while also leaving space for conventional flex storage. Levels two through five will hold more than 450 storage modules, stored up to six deep in each storage lane, on each side of an aisle.   RoboVault will store modular storage units up to 10’ wide x 20’ long and 8’ tall, each of which can be subdivided for smaller-size storage units. All manner of belongings can be stored in RoboVault’s secure, climate-controlled facility -- from smaller sized items, such as pieces of art, to large vehicles, including automobiles, boats and trailers.

Customers will have seven secure display stations to load and unload their possessions. At entry, a customer drives up into the building, an exterior door slides closed behind them, and an interior door opens showing his storage container immediately in front of him. This process is facilitated by the swipe of a card or biometric device or by entering a pin number. Once loading/unloading is completed, a customer swipes his card or biometric device or enters his pin #, and the unit returns to storage. To maintain the air quality of the climate-controlled storage facility, the interior door closes, and then the exterior door opens, allowing the customer to drive away.

Automated Self Storage Systems, LLC’s patent pending methodology has been teamed with Westfalia Technologies, Inc.’s technology to provide for the RoboVault automated self-storage system. The system will run off Westfalia’s AS/RS technology and patented Satellite® rack entry vehicle, which smoothly and quickly moves the storage modules in and out of the racks onto the Storage Retrieval Machine (SRM). If needed, the SRM transfers the unit onto a turntable, so that the sliding door will be facing the customer at their appointed display (loading) station. Controlling, managing and tracking all the storage module movements will be the Savanna.NET® Self Storage application, a module within Westfalia’s Warehouse Management System that has been applied to the storage industry.

Gary Frank, Westfalia’s vice president of automation said, “Because urban land will continue to be in short supply, automated self-storage systems represent the future of storage supporting the needs of commercial and residential users.  Westfalia’s state-of-the-art automated technology has been used in other industries for years, and is ideal for use in the self-storage industry.”
