Westfalia DeepLaneā„¢ Pallet Flow Storage Systems Are the First Step to Automated Warehousing

Monday, April 14, 2008

YORK, Pa. Gruma Corporation’s Mission Foods division recently purchased a DeepLane™ Pallet Flow System from Westfalia Technologies, Inc. for their flour tortilla and chip foodservice distribution facility in Roanoke, Texas. Mission Foods is a repeat buyer, which joins a list of recent Westfalia clients—including Matrix Material Handling, and Seaboard Foods—that have selected Westfalia’s DeepLane Pallet Flow Systems to handle increasing product flows throughout their warehouses.

As a first step toward automation, many companies have found Westfalia’s DeepLane Pallet Flow Systems to have great economic benefits, as these systems provide higher density storage. Customers can store more volume in an existing structure or plan a smaller building footprint for a new structure. Clients can also benefit from automatic First-In First-Out (FIFO) product rotation, which is of particular concern to the food and beverage industries where inventory has a specific shelf life. FIFO Pallet Flow Systems also reduce spoilage and product damage.

Westfalia’s systems can work will a variety of pallets types, including GMA, CHEP and others. All pallets are triple-rail-supported both entering and remaining in the racking structure. This 3-rail design helps eliminate pallet breakage or deflection.

In addition, Westfalia’s centrifugal braking technology has proven extremely reliable and durable over time. Each Westfalia DeepLane installation consists of the pallet flow rails, racking structure, pallet entry guides, heavy duty pallet ramp stops, installation hardware and centrifugal brakes.

A sampling of recent Westfalia DeepLane Pallet Flow Storage System integrations includes the following:
  • Mission Foods has ordered a Westfalia DeepLane 2300 Series Pallet Flow System to store 1,293 GMA (48” x 40”) pallets in their cooler facility (729 in the DeepLane rails and 564 in selective rack storage). The maximum weight for each pallet is 2,000 lbs with the 3-rail structure.
  • Matrix Material Handling of Oklahoma City, Okla., has ordered a Westfalia 2300 Series Pallet Flow System for their cooler warehouse. Working with GMA pallets, the system is divided into three rooms: a refrigerated area with 1,248 pallets storage, a frozen zero degree area with 1,088 pallets storage and an ambient room with an additional 560 pallets storage for a total of 2,896. The maximum weight for each pallet is 2,500 lbs. with the 3-rail system.
  • Seaboard Foods of Shawnee Mission, Kan., purchased a Westfalia DeepLane System to store 640 GMA pallets providing 80 faces. The maximum weight for each pallet is 2000 lbs in the 3-rail structure.
“These systems offer both a high degree of efficiency and cost-effectiveness,” says John Hinchey, Vice President of Sales, for Westfalia Technologies, Inc. “The best testimony, however, is the fact that many of our DeepLane Pallet Flow storage clients are repeat customers.”
